International Mother Language Day Event

The event brought together a range of voices, languages, cuisines, and performances that reflected the rich tapestry of cultural expression in our communities. One particularly powerful moment was a performance in South African Sign Language, reminding us that language goes beyond words, it lives in gesture, rhythm, and presence.
The day offered a space to reflect on how our mother tongues shape identity, memory, and belonging, and how multilingualism remains a vital bridge between communities, histories, and futures.
We left the event reminded of how essential it is to preserve, honour, and advocate for language in all its forms, spoken, signed, written, and felt across borders and generations.
