Two Scholarship opportunities with the Deutscher Bundestag! International Parliamentary Scholarship and the IPS Programme for African States. The German Bundestag invites scholars with an interest in the German parliamentary system who play an active role in promoting core democratic values in their home countries to apply for these opportunities in Berlin for 2024.

 

International Parliamentary Scholarships

Would you like to work at the German Parliament?
If you are from Central, Eastern or South Eastern Europe, France, Israel, North America, Latin America, Asia-Pacific or the Arab region, Namibia or South Africa, then the International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS) at the German Bundestag could give you the opportunity to experience how the Bundestag works over the course of five months, with three of these spent working in a Members office.

The programme runs each year from 1 March to 31 July.

The programme aims to: promote relations between Germany and the participating countries consolidate democratic values and tolerance deepen understanding of cultural diversity secure peaceful coexistence in the world.

Basic requirements:

  • Citizenship of a participating country (dual nationality is permitted)
  • University degree
  • Very good knowledge of the German language
  • Under 30 years old at the start of the scholarship

IPS programme for the African States

The German Bundestag invites highly motivated graduates from South Africa, Namibia and Botswana to take part in an annual scholarship programme in Berlin.

The concept: Since 2020, the German Bundestag is offering a scholarship programme for talented young graduates from South Africa, Namibia, Botswana. In 2024 Eastern African countries Kenia, Tansania and Uganda will participate in the program as well. German Bundestag invites scholars with an interest in the German parliamentary system who play an active role in promoting core democratic values in their home countries.

The main focus of the program is on events about the German parliamentary system along with presentations, workshops and seminars on topics such as German history and culture, diversity and the German culture of remembrance.

Basic Requirements:

  • Citizenship of a participating country
  • Under the age of 30 at the start of the scholarship on January 1st
  • University degree
  • Good knowledge of German (at least level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF))
  • Interest in politics, and social/political commitment
