Who can apply?

Nationals or permanent residents of a Sub-Saharan African country.
Female candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

What can be funded?

Master and PhD studies

Duration of the funding

Up to two years for the Master’s; up to three years for the PhD

  • Monthly allowance
  • Study and research allowance
  • University fees according to the official fee structure
  • Only applicable for In-Region scholarship holders:
    - Travel allowance
    - Health insurance (standard tariff)

Selection

Applicants must apply for their studies at Makerere University using the contacts and the method that is prescribed by the institution. Makerere University has set their own deadlines.
Makerere University will screen, pre-select (according to DAAD selection criteria) and short-list the applicants. A detailed report consisting of the shortlisting procedure, the entire list of applicants, the ranked shortlist and the shortlisting panel members will also be availed to DAAD. The ranked shortlist will contain at least double or triple (optional) the number of scholarships that have been attributed to the institution.
DAAD reserves the right of final selection.
