The DAAD Information Centre Johannesburg is located at the University of Witwatersrand. We are thrilled to be here in the heart of multicultural and diverse South Africa. Our door is always open to visitors and those who would like to learn more about DAAD in South Africa, studying in Germany and funding opportunities for study in South Africa and Germany. Philina Wittke, Director of DAAD South Africa
Philina Wittke has been the Director of DAAD South Africa and a lecturer in the German Department of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, since November 2013. With a degree in German, History, English and Psychology, her main field of interest is intercultural communication. For her, South Africa has been an amazing place of listening and learning, of passion and love, of aspiration and creativity, of strength and determination; mainly because of the inspiring people that will change the continent and surprise the world in the near future.
Ntsiki Mdlankomo, DAAD South Africa Administration
Ntsiki Mdlankomo studied Law and Business Administration in Germany before she founded her own event management company. After 20 years in Germany, she returned to Soweto and worked for the Goethe Institute Johannesburg. In October 2015 she joined the DAAD Johannesburg office and has ever since then livened up the office with a joyful hard working attitude.
Jaco Herbst, DAAD South Africa Administration
Jaco Herbst completed his Bachelor’s degree with a triple major in English, German and French with Distinction at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2016. In the future he wishes to obtain an MBA and work in German and French corporate ventures in South Africa. His greatest wish is to publish an acclaimed novel.
Nina Keller, DAAD Language Assistant
Nina Keller is the DAAD German language assistant at the University of the Witwatersrand. She fell in love with South Africa and its people for the first time in 2013 while doing an exchange semester in the beautiful town of Stellenbosch. From this time on, she visited almost every year to either gain some work experience in the various fields of teaching at the Goethe Institute in Cape Town or to visit her South African friends.
Elly Ngoma, Admin Assistant
Elly Ngoma is an admin assistant for DAAD South Africa. She is a third-year BA student at the University of the Witwatersrand, majoring in German and Linguistics. She aspires to work in diplomacy, for an organization such as the United Nations or an NGO, where she hopes to make a positive contribution to the development of developing countries within Africa, Asia and South America.
Anwyll de Leeuw, Office Assistant
Anwyll de Leeuw is the office assistant at DAAD South Africa. He has completed a BCom degree from the University of Johannesburg and is currently pursuing a BMus Music degree at the University of the Witwatersrand. When he isn’t playing guitar, you will find him watching series, taking photos, videographing or practicing German.
