The DAAD Information Centre Johannesburg is located at the University of the Witwatersrand. We offer advice and information to all South Africans on study and research in Germany and coordinate academic exchange between South Africa and Germany.

Dr Anja Hallacker has been the director of the DAAD Information Centre Johannesburg and a lecturer in the German Department of the University of the Witwatersrand since November 2017. She has worked in higher education systems all her life and takes pleasure and pride in supporting young students and researchers. From 2009 until 2014 she was the director of the DAAD Information Centre Pune in India and from 2014 - 2017 she served as managing director of the world-renowned Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School for Literary Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin. She enjoys engaging with scholarship holders, students, researchers and DAAD South Africa partners and to promote internationalisation in the South African higher education system.

Jaco Herbst completed his Bachelor’s degree with a triple major in English, German and French with Distinction at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2016.  Jaco has been working in the office since June 2017 and enjoys consultation sessions with South African students and researchers who are interested in study and research in Germany.

Ntsiki Mdlankomo studied Law and Business Administration in Germany before she founded her own event management company. After 20 years in Germany, she returned to Soweto and worked for the Goethe Institute Johannesburg. In October 2015 she joined the DAAD Johannesburg office and has livened up the office with her joyful personality ever since.

Gontse Scholz joined the DAAD Information Center Johannesburg team in July 2019. She obtained her Bachelor in Education degree, specializing in Senior and FET Phase as well as her Honours Degree in Educational Management from the University of South Africa (UNISA) in 2015.

She started her career in Education in 2011 as an Intern Teacher at Deutsche Internationale Schule Pretoria, where she taught for 4 years. She then worked as a Representative for Alumniportal Deutschland in South Africa for 3 years – She was responsible for promoting Alumniportal Deutschland in South Africa; creating, collecting and uploading content for the South African Alumni group on the online portal; and organizing alumni events for Germany Alumni in South Africa.

She successfully completed Social Media Marketing and Digital Marketing courses at the University of Cape Town in 2019.
