From 04.04.2022 to 08.04.2022, the Southern African – German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economics and Climate Action, organized and hosted a business delegation trip to South Africa and Namibia in the education and training sector.
The Southern African – German Chamber of Commerce and Industry NPC (AHK Southern Africa) with its head office in Johannesburg and branches in Cape Town, Durban, Maputo and Lusaka is the official representation of German business in Southern Africa. As a private non-profit organisation, the AHK aims to provide the best possible support for the flourishing of economic relations between Southern Africa and Germany. The AHK officially operates under the name “Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry NPC”
Nine German companies took this opportunity to discuss potential cooperation with local companies and educational institutions from South Africa and Namibia. This trip marked the first in-person delegation since the pandemic and was accompanied by iMOVE as cooperation partner.
Alongside Dr Mahomed Moolla from the Wits Strategic Partnerships Office, the DAAD South Africa office welcomed the various German business delegates onto the University of the Witwatersrand Campus for a tour of a South African University, sharing sharing stories about Wits and its rich history.
The programme also included tours of the University of Johannesburg (UJ), and Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), two Specialist Conferences in Johannesburg and Windhoek, as well as individually matched #B2Bmeetings. The keynote speakers at the conferences were Mrs. Gerda Magnus from the Department of Higher Education and Training, South Africa, and Dr. Raimo Naanda from the Ministry of Education, Namibia. The trip ended with a function at the Ambassador’s Residence in Windhoek.
