The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is calling for applications for a German Research Chair for “Mathematics and its Applications” at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Senegal. Applications open to PostDoctoral applicants until 1 April 2022!
In the coming years, the research chair will promote higher education and research in mathematics in Africa. AIMS Senegal is part of the pan-African AIMS Next Einstein Initiative which seeks to establish a coordinated network of supra-regional centres of excellence in mathematics across Africa.
Who should apply?
This call is aimed at postdoctoral mathematicians from any country who have an internationally recognized research record, several years of experience in research and teaching as well as in training students and (ideally) doctoral candidates. Applicants should conduct application-related research in areas that have the potential of contributing to the development of Africa.
The funding period for the chair was recently extended by two years. This research chair is now funded with a total of €835,000 for a six-year period. A long-term establishment of the research chair at AIMS Senegal is intended.
As part of the German Research Chair Programme that is financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Humboldt Foundation has already filled seven chairs at AIMS Centres. Others are to follow within the next few years.
Every year, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation enables more than 2,000 researchers from all over the world to spend time conducting research in Germany. The Foundation maintains an interdisciplinary network of well over 30,000 Humboldtians in more than 140 countries around the world – including 57 Nobel Prize winners
The closing date for applications is 1 April 2022.
