The DAAD Young Scholars in Africa Conference will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from 1 – 3 March 2019.
It is acknowledged all across the world that young academics, as future university lecturers, researchers, and professionals, play a key role for research and development and the education systems. In many African countries, however, it seems that the numbers of junior scientists and other scholars are far too low, and support mechanisms are not in place or too few, to provide the rapidly growing Higher Education sector with the necessary human resources and to build up adequate research capacities. It is therefore even more necessary to determine ways of overcoming system-related deficits and in promoting scholarly careers. The aim of the conference is to throw light on the different facets of this topic and to draw a roadmap towards overcoming major challenges which young African scholars are facing and towards living up to their full potential.
Dr. Mbulelo Ncango, Director of Human Capacity Development at the National Research Foundation in South Africa will be in attendance.
